One of the dirtiest little secrets in the computer industry is the belief that state-of-the-art computers purchased just a few years ago are now outdated, only to be recycled as virtually worthless clumps of copper, plastic, aluminum, and of course silicon. This myth is called "planned obsolescence" that sends mixed signals to consumers, causing confusion over what the healthy lifespan of a personal computer should be. For most users today, current computer systems -- although perhaps lagging in memory -- are more than adequate when properly configured to perform at their peak. WHY DO PEOPLE UPGRADE ? | Upgrading increases performance, speed, and reliability of a system | | Additional functionalities become available when the right upgrades are made | | Many newer software packages require more RAM and drive space, so upgrades allow customers to use the latest software | | Customers can obtain increased security and backup of critical data | | Save frustration and time transferring your old programs and data to a new system | | Upgrades cost less and take less time to complete |

F INDING YOUR PERFECT COMPUTER UPGRADEWith GoldenRAM’s tried and tested formulas, finding the perfect upgrade is a simple and straightforward task. All you do is use one of the three methods below: 1. Run the UpgradeDetect version that best suits your need: Individual Users... | | | Never upgraded a computer system before? Has your system already been through a couple of upgrades? Just not sure what will give you the most bang for your buck? UpgradeDetect can and will help.
Simply use UpgradeDetect to evaluate the current configuration of your system. The results can be compared against desired standards to recommend the upgrades that will allow you to prolong the life of your hardware investment. UpgradeDetect will guide you through the entire process. Okay, I'm ready to analyze my system |
| Corporate Users... | | | Need to upgrade several systems in a department, location or even your entire enterprise? How about remotely detecting what is needed at a customer's site?
We can help with our Project based UpgradeDetect. By simply creating an UpgradeDetect Project you can collect system information on two or more systems and evaluate those results against your required specifications, industry standards or even upgrade budget.
You will end up with a complete list of upgrades, organized by system, to present for approval or to turn into an order.
UpgradeDetect will guide you through the entire process. Okay, I'm ready to analyze several systems |

2. Use UpgradePRO by selecting the make and model of that particular computer...or 3. Use the Search and Cross Reference tool by entering a competitor's part number, an OEM part number, a GoldenRAM part number, or a description of the computer upgrade part you are looking for. Use our parameter search for finding a memory or drive upgrade. Use our "Request a New Part" form that is located on your personalized website.
BENEFITS OF UPGRADING Dollar for dollar, adding RAM to a computer is considered to be the best way to increase its performance. How will a RAM upgrade benefit you? 1. A RAM upgrade will make a computer run faster because the more data that can be held in RAM, the fewer the times the data will need to be swapped between the slow hard drive and the RAM. Since hard drives are hundreds, even thousands of times slower than RAM, the fewer the number of swaps the better. 2. Some software packages and operating systems require more RAM to even function or operate at their optimum capabilities. 3. The more RAM you have, the more applications you can successfully run at the same time.
The cost difference between upgrading an existing system versus buying a new system can be substantial, especially if the premature replacement interval is repeated. UpgradeDetect® not only offers users a comprehensive list of suggested computer upgrades, but it also alerts users if their system's Serial Presence Detect (SPD) chip is at risk for a virus. Most RAM modules have an SPD chip that allows the computer to determine how much and what type of memory is onboard. In most systems, the SPD chip is not write-protected -- meaning a virus could potentially render the computer totally unusable by overwriting information contained in the SPD chip. UpgradeDetect will scan down to the chip level to determine if the user already has write-protected virus-free RAM...or not. What is Virus-Free RAM and why is having it important? Just about all RAM modules have a Serial Presence Detect (SPD) chip so that the computer can know how much and what type of RAM is on the RAM module (memory). In 1998 a company patented the process to write-protect this SPD chip to shield it from computer viruses. Many RAM module manufacturers did not want to pay the license fee to this company so they decided to just sell memory modules that were not write-protected. In fact, more than 50% of all computers do not have write-protected RAM modules. G OLDENRAM was one of only a few companies that paid for this license and has developed a test to determine if a computer has RAM modules that are not write-protected from viruses.KEY FEATURES A chipset is the part of a computer that allows the CPU to communicate with the RAM modules (besides other functionalities). GoldenRAM developed a separate computer program for each type of chipset...and there are many of them out there. In order to prove how vulnerable computers are to memory viruses, GoldenRAM programmers wrote a computer virus in less than 48 hours that would destroy information on the SPD chip. If the good guys at GoldenRAM could create a harmful virus, imagine the impact if more than half of a major company's computers were shut down for weeks because the computers that have been attacked will be totally unusable--even the UpgradeDetect tool would be rendered inoperable to automatically determine which RAM would be needed to repair each of the infected systems. The system administrator would have to manually determine what type of RAM modules that was needed, order all of the correct parts, and have a technician replace all of the bad memory before the computer could work again. Since we have found from history, that one in six ordered computer parts is incorrect, much time will be spent on having parts shipped to and from the vendor.
About GoldenRAM Since its inception in April of 1988, GoldenRAM has sold over $1 Billion in computer upgrades, including RAM, hard drives, DVDs, CPUs, monitors, and flash storage solutions with dramatic revenue growth since then.. GoldenRAM has developed and perfected revolutionary software, called UpgradeDetect®. Developed entirely in the United States and using only U.S. citizens to build the company's systems and tools, GoldenRAM is one of the few remaining computer peripheral companies that manufactures its products only in the USA. GoldenRAM operates no overseas manufacturing facilities. Founded by Christ (Chris) Zomaya, GoldenRAM's corporate team is staffed by many senior executives who have been with the company since its April 1988 inception. Approximately 60 percent of sales have been of memory modules, as drive kits (hard and optical) have accounted for approximately 40 percent of sales.
